August 9th Sally Beauty haul

So I was completely unaware that there are two Sally Beauty store in Winnipeg (bad beauty blogger!).

After discovering this, I had to check it out as soon as possible, and I thought I'd share my haul.

I wish every day was Halloween...

Melissa-
The theme for the social we're working in January is Mardi Gras, right? I think this amazing Lady Gaga inspired look should be the uniform for the people working it. We could do lacy masks, in different shades for each person. Really though, I just want an excuse to do it, and Halloween's too far away.

Secretly a drag queen at heart,
Abbey

P.S. - Melis, I promise that tomorrow I will combine my love of books and makeup and try to replicate the look I wore to the Neil Gaiman signing at McNally Robinson. It looked lovely, but did not help me overcome my book nerd tendencies.

Christmas On The Brain

Dear Abbey,

I know it is only November, but I think I am ready for Christmas now. This morning I pulled out my Christmas Music, I looked fondly at the grey skies and snow outside, and thought about how much I adore Christmas. (In retrospect, I think I have lost my mind...)

Anyways, in the midst of my Christmas Cheer, I pulled out my TKB Trading stuff and sat down to play with my mica. Not surprisingly, I came out of today's adventures in blending with some very Christmas themed creations.

Star Light, Star Bright is a sparkly lemon yellow with a gold sheen. I was going for a gold-ish colour, but got sidetracked by the yellow I ended up creating.

Cold Winter's Eve- A bright navy blue with a touch of iridescent glitter (but just a touch).

Christmas Pine - A muted blue-green with aqua sparkles.

Gingerbread Houses - A sparkly brown with a reddish-iridescence. This colour can also blend down to a brownish-taupe.

Winterberry - A cool purple with red highlights and gold glitter.

Here is the look I did with a couple of them today:

Eyes:

UDPP
Inner Corner: Star Light, Star Bright
Rest of Lid; Christmas Pine
Crease: Gingerbread Houses
Highlight: Limecrime Nymph
Liner: Revlon, Aromaleigh Black Sunshine on top (with sealant)

I am trying to think of more Christmas-sy colours to make. I want to try to do a gold again (this time without the sidetracked part of things) and a blue-tinged white (a cold snow colour). What else do you think I should try to do?

Dear Abbey,

I went through my eyeshadow drawers this morning and deliberately chose colours I never wind up wearing. Turns out that many of the shades I frequently overlook, seem to coordinate well with each other, and made a look I am going to have to re-use once in a while!

Eyes: (long list, we know what I am like...)
UDPP
Base Lid Colour: Aromaleigh Pure Hues Agate
Inner Eye Accent: Aromaleigh Pure Hues 14k
Crease (blended on to top of lid as well): Glamour Doll Eyes Show Off
Highlight: Aromaleigh Pure Hues Alchemy
Quo Gel Eyeliner (brown with glitter, used just to make things a little tacky)
Liner: Glamour Doll Eyes Chocoholic
Aromaleigh Indelible Eyeliner Sealant
Urban Decay Lash Primer
LashBlast Luxe Mascara
Now, with Bronte away visiting my parents, one might ask what Aussie thought of this whole exercise... Thus, to entertain you while you are away, your "Aussie Eyes" fix of the day.

Coaching Lessons

Dear Abbey,

I promise I will not blog about work, but I thought, in light of our new winter activities, this might amuse you...

So I found myself coaching our first Bball game of the season this evening (go ahead, laugh away... They told me I don't need to actually know the rules or how to play to be a coach, I just need to manage the rotation.) Anyways, so there I was, frustrated because our team seemed to have forgotten the meaning of the word defense, when I found myself screaming "Hurry, Hurry Hard!!!" at the top of my lungs. Not my finest moment. Possibly I need to further research appropriate basketball jargon before the next game...

Any ideas?

Lissa

Dear Abbey,

As you well know, I have been on quite a little purple kick of late and I don't think it is coming to an end any time soon...

Love- I don't think it is too strong a word to describe how I feel about the nail polish I found! For the last few days I have been working with an OPI colour, Midnight in Moscow, which, though it hinted at gorgeous red highlights in the bottle, turned into a muddy black on me. Thus, on my “quick” errand run to Shopper's last night, I was thrilled when I stumbled across a blackened purple that looked like it could work with the black mess on my nails.

I have to say it did not disappoint! I am super impressed with the new Sally Hanson Salon Nail Lacquer I own in Purple Heart. The coverage is exceptional, two light coats completely covered the black on my nails and the deep purple in the bottle turned into a nice, wearable royal purple on my nails. It feels like it is a nice thick polish that will not chip easily (though I did muck up a tip because I am too impatient to let things dry properly before I try to coat again) and it dried nice and quickly.

It will take a few days to see how it wears, but, at the $6.99 price tag, I have to say I am pretty crazy about this polish so far! (Though, I do admit that some of this excitement may be at the disappearance of the black nails. I have nothing against black polish in general. It can look amazing when done right, but done right would not have been the first description I would have chosen when it came to my nails... However, now all it purple, life is better, and I can smile while my science-linear mind tries to come up with an outfit that will best showcase my new nail colour.)
